The service is staffed by trained volunteers (lawyers, students, teachers, retirees, homemakers, and bankers) who go through a rigorous training course to develop and refine their listening skills in order to assist callers in defining and exploring various options to crises they may be experiencing. The hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is non-sectarian, anonymous and free.
