With help from Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, Fairmont Public Utilities provides incentives for its residential customers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Rebates are available for qualified dishwashers, clothes washers, air conditioners (central and room), ceiling fans, light fixtures (e.g. torchieres, hardwired CFLs), heat pumps (air and ground source), dehumidifiers, refrigerators, and freezers. Appliances must be Energy Star to qualify for the rebate and bonus incentives are available in some cases if the old working appliance is properly recycled. Incentives range from $2 for compact fluorescent bulbs to $200 for central A/Cs and heat pumps (plus $75 per each SEER above 14 for both).
